Vintage French-Style Bergere Armchair w/ Cut Pile Velvet Upholstery
Product details
Seller's Notes:Jackie Kennedy's Francophile style both drew on and influenced the zeitgeist in American interior decoration in the 1960s. This chair, one of a pair available for sale, is a wonderful example of that phenomenon. Drawing on the ornament and delicate proportions of late 18th-century, neoclassical French furniture, this striking vintage accent chair embraces both tradition and modernity in a fresh shape informed by the past. The frame is solid, carved hardwood, painted in creamy distressed white that shows the wood and paint layers beneath in places. Rosettes, "falling coin" ornament, and the reeded legs are purely French and historically-correct in style. The original silky, plush cut-pile velvet upholstery is rich in multiple blue hues and pale cream tones, a fresh take on a traditional, symmetrical pomegranate motifs or Jacobean floral patterns. Details: Feather-filled seat cushions. Excellent, sturdy condition, with some distressing to the paint and one or two spots on the upholstery. Chair measures about ? inches high, ? inches wide, and ? inches deep.
