Marbro Lamp Co. Circa 1950's Boy w/ Jug Table Lamp
Product details
Seller's Notes:Huge figural chalk lamp covered with gold leaf by Marbro of Beverly Hills, one of the finest lamp producers at mid century. There is a lot of information on-line about this lamp. The figure is of a young boy drinking wine from a vessel and has a touch of humor, he is obviously drunk - one shoe is off and the one on is on the wrong foot while the jug is so positioned to insure it's going to pour mainly all over him and not in his mouth. The original sculpture was by Italian artist G. Burbella. It's a heavy lamp weighting over 32 lbs. and stands about 54" tall to the finial, 29" to the top of the figure with a 10" diameter base. The figure is 11" deep and 8.5" at the widest. There are two sockets with pull chains (one chain has been replaced) and an in-line switch that all work but these are original and maybe should be replaced. The original finial is in place as is (what I believe to be) the original shade which is in almost perfect condition. The lamp is free of any damage - no chips, no cracks, and the gold is all present and bright. I tiny bit of wear can be seen in the wood base as shown on the photo. This is not a crack or chip, just a spot with the finish worn off. The gold rope where the wooden base meets the lamp is almost perfect - this is one thing that is usually missing or replaced. This is a VERY cool lamp, in great shape and is tall enough to be a floor lamp if placed on a low table.
