For our second AptStories home tours feature, we took a short trip upstate to visit Michael and his kids in Pawling, NY! They moved upstate from New York City once the pandemic hit, and have loved the change from a smaller New York City home to their spacious new one in the suburbs. Since their move was a sudden one, Michael had three weeks to find furniture options that weren’t from traditional retailers with long shipping wait times. They were able to find a mix of beautiful new, used and vintage pieces from AptDeco, local secondhand stores, and other online marketplaces.
Our favorite pieces to look out for: the West Elm dining table from AptDeco, the unique art throughout the house found on AptDeco, and a gold painted dinosaur in the entrance window from the house.
Shopping tips from Michael
- AptDeco may have great furniture, but there’s also a lot of unique art and decor to be found on the site
- To find the best deals, check AptDeco every morning
- Filtering by free or discounted delivery can help you save a lot of money over time
Michael’s entryway features a piece of spiritual art and a set of antique cans both found on AptDeco. We love the unique blend of styles, what Michael calls a mix of “modern farmhouse and vintage.”
Our favorite view of the house is the spacious kitchen and dining area with a stone fireplace backdrop. This dining table was the first piece the family had after moving here from the city.
This cozy alcove is where the kids watch tv and play downstairs. The brown leather Restoration Hardware couch in this room is a resilient little piece that can weather playdates, pets, and coloring mishaps.
Although cut for time in the video, the kids rooms were a highlight of the tour! Both rooms were furnished with mostly secondhand pieces from a mixture of online marketplaces and secondhand shops.
The kids rooms had similar but distinct themes, with decor that let their personalities shine through.
The cozy living room features a double-sided fireplace shared with the dining room. The double doors on the right open up to a covered deck and an expansive back yard.
